Would you like to take your software and technical writing skills and apply them to detailing ground-breaking software frameworks that help deliver the world's most advanced and life-changing biotech medicines? Amgen is using cloud technology, DevSecOps frameworks, and migration and continuous deployment pipelines to build new drug therapies for patients that address grievous illnesses. We are seeking a software Technical Writer who has a math, science, or engineering background and an aptitude for writing to fill a position in Amgen's newly created Cloud Center of Excellence (CCOE) team. Our small product team is a high-energy, tight-knit group who builds our DevSecOps framework used globally by Amgen development and scientific teams.
As a Technical Writer, you will be Embedded with a multi-functional development team. You will learn about our users, participate in product design reviews, help test the software, and build engaging, user-focused documentation. Your documentation will run on hand-held devices as well as on the web. You'll be a critical team member working on inventing, developing and extending the internally developed DevSecOps framework. Our frameworks are built using opensource and AWS services. Our mission is to meet Amgen's software development needs as well as our DataOps needs for AI and ML data scientists. Your technical knowledge will grow daily, and the learning opportunities are endless.
Job Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with engineers to develop high-quality user documentation, deployment/installation guides, script/code examples, and design specifications
  • Manage multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment
  • Build product overview and procedure documents, understand and write example code, and update help information and FAQs
  • Understand and know the user-base of business clients and scientists who are the end-users for the documentation
  • Edit, clarify, and proofread documents written by others and coach non-writers on ways to improve their writing skills
  • Be an integral member of the core DevOps/DataOps development team and help develop, test, deploy, and operate the DevSecOps service 24x7x365 globally
Basic Qualifications
Doctorate degree
Masters degree and 2 years experience
Bachelors degree and 4 years of related experience
Associates degree and 10 years of related experience
High School/GED and 12 years of related experience
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS, BA or MS, MA in computer science, English, Philosophy, Technical Writing, or related field
  • 3 - 5+ years of experience as a technical writer working in a SDLC process from start to finish documenting successful commercial products and/or services to customers
  • Ability to turn complicated into compelling and explain ground breaking software and infrastructure concepts in a structured and understandable manner
  • Experience using one or more general purpose programming languages in a DevOps framework
  • Develop creative, engaging and accurate content in a concise, clear, jargon-free manner
  • Willing and able to learn a new software technologies at a rapid pace and document their use for scientists and business users
  • Previous experience working in an agile environment
  • Strong attention to detail with a proactive and open-minded attitude to resolving problems and delivering results
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Self-starter, proactive, and phenomenal teammate
